NURSING EDUCATION, TRAINING & RESEARCH DIVISION (NETRD) provides a “Structured Learning Experience” and training activities to all Nursing Service Personnel, Nursing Allieds and Affiliates for their professional development.

The division is responsible for the planning and designing of trainings, seminars, workshops and post-graduate courses.

The office is also in-charge of the Student Affiliation Program.

Programs/Courses Offered:

  1. DOH-NURSE CERTIFICATION PROGRAM doh-ncp_launch

The Department of Health (DOH) devised the Nurse Certification Program (NCP) to ensure excellent performance of Nurses in a particular specialty area and therefore, global competitiveness of the Profession.

This program involves a system of compentency assessment, certification, and learning and development.

It is open to all Filipino Registered Nurses, as well as Foreign Nurses with SPECIAL TEMPORARY PERMIT from Philippine Regulation Commission (PRC).

The NCP provides a framework for looking at higher level performance of Nurses within a particular specialty area using specific behaviours identified for each level of proficiency as performance standards.

It also provides the mechanism of progressing from one level of expertise to another through a guided and evidence-based assessment process that applies the performance standards and is conducted by independent and objective assessors. 

DOH-NCP in Pulmonary Nursing Level 3: Competency Development in Advance Pulmonary Nursing 

 

Level 3 comprises of 3 modules: 

I.    Pulmonary Clinical Nursing – assessment of performance in the
      General Wards/Units only. (2 months)
 

II.   Pulmonary Emergency Nursing – assessment of performance in the
      Emergency Room (1 month)
 

III. Pulmonary Oncology Nursing – assessment of performance in the
      Oncology Unit (1 month)

       

DOH-NCP in Pulmonary Nursing Level 4: Compentency Development in Critical Care Nursing

Includes three (3) modules:

I.   Critical Care Pulmonary Nursing (Sub-Specialization in Mechanical
      Ventilation) – 
assessment of performance in the Critical Care
      Units. (1 month)

II.  Thoracic Nursing (Sub-Specialization in Post-Anaesthesia Nursing) –
      assessment of 
performance in the Post-Anaesthesia Care Unit/
      Surgical Intensive Care Unit. 
(1 month)

III. Thoracic Cardiovascular OR Nursing – assessment of performance in
      the Operating 
Room for Thoracic Surgical Procedures. (1 month)

 

DOH-NCP in Pulmonary Nursing Level 5: Compentency Development in Leadership & Management

Consists of two (2) modules:

I.  Management Development in Clinical Nursing – assessment of
     performance in the Supervision of Nursing Personnel in Clinical
     Nursing (1 month)

II. Career Development Management in the Nursing Practice – assessment
     of performance in the formulation and guidance of Nursing Personnel
     to Education, Training & Research. (1 month)

 

2.  PULMONARY NURSING PROGRAM

POST-GRADUATE COURSE IN PULMONARY NURSING (3 MONTHS)
To develop skills, knowledge and attitude of Registered Nurses towards delivery of effective, efficient, safe and quality nursing care to patients with respiratory and non-respiratory problem and incorporate quality research-based practice into their clinical decisions.

            8. Long Brown Envelope 

CRITICAL CARE IN PULMONARY NURSING (3 MONTHS)

Aims to prepare Professional Nurses to be more competent towards the delivery of safe, effective and efficient quality nursing care to critically-ill clients with pulmonary and non-pulmonary problem.

          1. Didactics
          2. Hands-on Clinical Attachment
          3. Suctioning
          4. NGT feeding
          5. Medication administration
          6. Inventory of E-Kart
          7. Close monitoring
          8. Turn over of patient

Requirements:

1. Same with PGCPN

2. PGCPN Certificate or any related Training Program Certificate

3. Employment Certificate (optional) 

 

3.  INTRAVENOUS THERAPY (IVT) PROGRAM

Republic Act 7164, Sec. 27, provides that the practice of intravenous (IV) injections by Nurses requires a special training according to protocol established.

 

BASIC INTRAVENOUS THERAPY (IVT) PROGRAM (3 DAYS) 

The course aims to provide safe and quality Nursing Practice especially in IV Therapy. 

a. Return demonstration nursing_training

b. Practice insertion with dummy arm 

c. One-on-one insertion 

d. Actual IV insertion 

e. Participants ready for completion of cases

 

Requirements: 

1. Valid PRC ID 

2. Training fee 

3. IVT Standards Handbook 

*Application of IVT card from ANSAP c/o participant after completion of cases.

 

INTRAVENOUS THERAPY (IVT) UPDATE/REFRESHER COURSE (3 DAYS)

3 IVT Update certificates required for renewal of IVT card.

a. Lectures and workshops conducted by ANSAP Trainer

Requirements:

1. Valid PRC ID

2. Old IVT card

3. Training fee

INTRAVENOUS THERAPY (IVT) PRECEPTOR'S TRAINING COURSE (1 DAY)

This course aims to produce skilled and knowledgeable preceptors to facilitate the Basic IVT Program, thus quality Nursing Practice.

TAPING TECHNIQUE WORKSHOP (S.T.E.P. PROGRAM)
Collaborative project between LCP NETRD and ANSAP Research to help establish protocols for taping and use of dressings towards better quality patient care.

d. Closed thoracostomy tube

e. Foley catheter

4.  STAFF DEVELOPMENT

ORIENTATION FOR NEW NURSING PERSONNEL

To assist the new staff member to gain an understanding of the philosophy and objectives of LCP and help him/her adjust to a new organization, environment and duties through a planned introduction.

 

5.  NURSING UPDATE/SEMINAR

Facilitates the continuous learning of LCP Nurses and other participants by keeping them up-to-date with the latest trends in Nursing Care.

 

6.  WORKSHOP FOR NURSING ATTENDANT

 Assists Nursing Attendants in providing safe and quality Nursing Care.

 

7.  NURSING AUDIT

Measures and improves the quality of Nursing services delivered in LCP.

Aims to provide client high quality care and services through continuous feedbacking essential to improve practice and services.

 

8.  NURSING RESEARCH

Annual Research Presentation conducted to facilitate and ensure evidence-based Nursing practices.

 

9.  CLINICAL INSTRUCTOR'S TRAINING COURSE (1 MONTH)

Clinical Intructors from affiliating School of Nursing are trained prior to student Related Learning Experience (RLE) exposure.

This is to assist the Clinical Instructor and affiliating school to give an understanding of the mission, vision, philisophy, goals and organizational set-up of the institution, thereby enhancing awareness of their collaborative role in the delivery of quality health care service to our clients.

 

10. PRACTICAL NURSING ASSISTANT COURSE (1 MONTH)
       Nursing Assistant plays an important part in the health care team who can
       contribute highly towards the attainment of excellent health care service.
  

Simple Nursing procedures can be delegated to them not to relieve Nurses from burden but rather to deliver immediate, effective and safe patient care especially in an emergency situation.   

 

This program is also an enhancement of their knowledge, skills and attitude to make them competent towards the delivery of service and able to meet client requirement and satisfaction. 

 

11.  PRIVATE DUTY PULMONARY NURSING (1 MONTH)

To provide a comprehensive care to critically-ill patient who chooses to be transferred to a private room on a one-is-to-one ratio, thus able to assist them to move towards self care at a realistic level of wellness and an optimum quality of life.

13.  NURSING SCHOOL AFFILIATION AND EDUCATIONAL TOUR
       Through DOH AO No. 5-A s. 1996, dated 17 February 1996, the LCP has
       opened its doors for affiliation to Colleges of Nursing with the end view of
       meeting the health needs of people through quality service and develop future
       Nurses keeping it relevant to global competiveness.
 

14.  OTHER PROGRAMS

DOH INTER-HOSPITAL RESEARCH FORUM

Interhospital research competition commencing annually during the National Hospital Week celebration.
